Hello RC White, I installed Vista Ultimate from the DVD, it told me that the upgrade option was disabled and that I should do a clean install. It did offer to partition the corrupted hard drive, which I let it do and it installed correctly. I managed to get some settings back from a One Care back up.

What is using so much hard drive space?
I assigned that a drive name E: Now how can I format the whole c: drive and start afresh. It is not letting me format and install in c: drive. Instead it just goes ahead and overwrites it. In the mean time I ordered a 250 GB hard drive to replace my 100 GB. (I am an old hardware guy and like tinkering anyway) If any of these ideas make a dramatic improvement I will let you know. When I look in the install/uninstall program function I see it all but not when I look at it from a file perspective.

Ok, so if I am booting primarily from the drive my XP resides on, then I will want to install the VistaBootPro program, onto XP and run it from there, instead of installing and I installed it, by booting from the Vista DVD, selecting the new hard drive, formatted it from there, and installed Vista onto it.
